Donald Yim, AIFD, designs for Accent Decor

This summer, we traveled to California to participate in the AIFD Symposium Partner Expo, as well as catch up with all our industry friends and scope out inspiring designs being presented throughout the duration of the symposium.

One AIFD member we particularly love catching up with is Donald Yim, AIFD, who designed the arrangements for our display at the Partner Expo.

Our display was modeled after our Baroque Bumble story, featuring modern metallics and black on black details alongside romantic floral prints inspired by Dutch still life paintings.

So when Donald Yim, AIFD told us he would help us out and design the florals for our display, we were beyond excited!

“Donald’s style is modern and clean, and he’s always up for designing something fun and different.” Margaret Hofland, co-founder and Art Director for Accent Decor, said.

And when it came to inspiration for the booth, Donald found it from our new 2016 Spring collection.

“The new products have a lot of texture, [as well as] golden and warm colors that worked really well together,” Donald said.

Donald is determined to find  his own style and identity amongst the best floral designers, and while he admits these are his biggest career challenges, his hard work and natural gift at connecting with people shows exactly what sets him apart.

Along with the beautiful flowers you see pictured, he brought in a lot of unusual and unique garden greens to enhance the products.

The results communicated that Donald is a master at balancing his personal style with the desires of the client and he stresses that good communication with your client is at the heart of a successful client relationship.

“Understand what they’re looking for. You [can] put your personal spin on the design, but still maintain what your client is looking for,” Donald said.

When Donald isn’t creating beautiful arrangements, you can find him with camera in hand.

“I enjoy photography [and] learning how to see differently through the lens,” Donald said.

And of course, one of our favorite things about Donald? He just can’t resist taking a good selfie.
