Accent Decor Behind the Scenes: Pride for Parents

It's easy to get caught up in all the last minute tasks and projects before the year comes to a close, so at Accent Decor, we try to make a point to remind ourselves that one of our priorities is to always give back and reach out to the needs of our community.

We truly believe there's always enough time to put business aside and focus on giving back to the community we're apart of.

For the past four years, employees at Accent Decor have generously donated gifts and their time to Pride for Parents, a community Christmas store that allows parents the dignity to provide gifts for their children.

Started by FCS, this program not only helps parents provide for their families, but also assists in providing jobs for South Atlanta residents.

This year, Accent Decor set up two Christmas trees with handwritten tags showing gifts that children in South Atlanta are wishing to receive this year.

In addition to providing gifts for the store, a few of our employees headed over to the shop at the Carver Neighborhood Market to bring donations and assist in sorting and pricing toys.

We're so honored to have a helping hand with Pride for Parents during the holidays, and from the bottom of our hearts, we wish you all a safe and joyful holiday with your family and friends.

Our office will be closed December 24 and 25 this week, but it'll be back to business for us on Monday, December 28. Until then, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Win a Free Trip to Market!

As we put the final touches on our showrooms this year, we're reminded of how grateful we are of our amazing customers and the support they show us year after year. It's easy to forget that there are individuals behind a business, and in the same breath that these individuals can celebrate success, they can experience great loss. As an extension of the Accent Decor family, helping our customers reach their potential as successful businesses is something we're passionate about.

We're asking our customers and followers to nominate someone in the floral, event, or home decor industry who is deserving of attending market this year. We would love for you to send us one to two paragraphs explaining why you feel this person deserves to go.

This could be someone who just started their business and doesn't have the funds to make the trip, or someone who's been in business for many years, but may have experienced recent hardships that made it difficult to find room in the budget to travel.

We'll provide airfare and hotel lodgings for the winner to attend one of the following markets:

AmericasMart | Atlanta, GA
January 12-19, 2016

Dallas Market Center | Dallas, TX
January 20-26, 2016

Las Vegas Market Center | Las Vegas, NV
January 24-28, 2016

All we ask is that you send us the following:
  • Nominee's name
  • Nominee's business name
  • Nominee's city and state
  • Nominee's preferred contact information
  • 1-2 paragraphs explaining why this person is deserving
Please email your submission to christina@accentdecor.com by December 27, 11:59 PM EST.

One of the nominees will be selected and notified by January 1, 2016. Nominee has until January 4th to respond to our offer before another person is selected. Nominees must be a legitimate business and a registered customer with Accent Decor. No purchase necessary to qualify.

Ultimate Wedding Style with EMC

Last week, we shared four stunning wedding looks from the EMC+ Intimate to Ultimate floral workshop with you, and this week, we're looking at their ultimate wedding style at the Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta.

Fit for a French palace, the grand oval estate table is certainly a sight to behold with more than 20 silver candelabras stacked high with white avalanche roses and swagged with crystal garlands to create a staggering display for 36 seated guests.

Everything in the ballroom was precisely calculated to fit the space in order to execute this magnificent display of fine floral work. On the north side of the ballroom, the grand window was graced with a curving flower wall of roses and branches.

4 Intimate Wedding Styles with EMC

We were honored to be one of the sponsors of the EMC+ Intimate to Ultimate workshop in August. Led by Hitomi Gilliam AIFD and Tomas De Bruyne, EMC hosted this specialized workshop to provide a complete experience for planning, prepping, and executing large scale, luxury floral design for high-end weddings.

Over the course of three days, students had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as they learned new floral design techniques.

Here's some highlights from day 1 of the Intimate to Ultimate Workshop in Atlanta!

Intimate Settings at the Georgian Terrace Hotel, Atlanta

Students were asked to create four intimate looks inspired by mood boards and specific locations in the hotel. From learning bouquet holder mechanics and armature construction to receiving first hand experience in styling a photo shoot, the students had a fulfilling first day.

Look 1: Neo Moderne - featuring our Amaryllis Vases.

Look 2: Classic Romance - featuring our Nikki Candelabra, Etude Vases, and Blush Votives.

Look 3: Urban Organics -featuring our Etude Vases.

Look 4: Tropical Romance - featuring our Moretti Candelabra and Rota Vases

Next week, we'll share our favorite displays from Day Two, where the students moved from intimate arrangements to ultimate displays of grandeur.

New to the Creative Team: Meet Christina

Name: Christina Conrad
Role at Accent Decor: Social Media Strategist and Copywriter

Growing up an introvert, I devoured books and could sit for hours dreaming up stories to write. To this day, I still prefer to sort through piles of photographs and flip through albums over scrolling through my phone's gallery. I am a millennial, but I grew up knowing a time before digital landscapes of algorithms and oversharing. I still remember seeing a digital camera for the first time and wondering at its magic.

photograph by Serena Cevenini
But if there's one thing that keeps me from getting stuck in my ways, it's my overwhelming curiosity of embracing technology and change in a way that can enhance a story rather than compete with it. I guess that's the benefit of being born on the cusp of digital photography and social media. I knew and appreciated what came before, but I was positioned to gradually embrace and grow with this new future.

Now, I spend most of my time taking photographs, writing, and learning how social media can be an incredible tool that connects people and the stories they love. I'm excited about the opportunity to share compelling stories for a company that's passionate about their customers, innovative design, and their community.

What Inspires Me: I'm inspired by quiet moments, secret recipes, and sweeping landscapes on an overcast day. I also love history, and I'm often looking to the past for inspiration. From the shadowy and dramatic art of the Baroque period to the classic and nostalgic look of Colonial Revival homes, I'm intrigued by techniques that survive the test of time and are still revered today.

Current Favorite Design Trends: Lately, I've been inspired by moody interiors, organic wooden details, victorian-inspired design, and copper accents.

Current Favorite Accent Decor Product: The Victoria Lantern. This piece is so enchanting! From the etched design in the mercury glass panels to the aged metal frame, I definitely feel transported to another era when I look at it.

I'm looking forward to blogging for you all and hanging out online together as we pour over beautiful florals and home decor trends!

You can always reach out to me in the comments of this blog or on social media in the following places!

Meet the Newest Member of our Buying Team

Monique joined our Creative Team back in February after working as a Customer Service Specialist for Accent Decor for over 2 years. She quickly adapted to her new role and started traveling overseas to source product with our buying team. Monique brings a fresh perspective and an extensive knowledge of the floral and home accessories industries which she developed from working with our customers day-in and day-out. Let's get to know her a little better, shall we?

What is your role amongst the AD team?

My role is to make sure we are offering our customers beautiful, modern and trendy products that cater to their needs and desires at an affordable price.

Do you have any awesome hobbies you enjoy out of work?

I am a house hunter! I can drive around and look at houses for hours. It started when I first moved to Georgia from California and my parents were looking for a house. We drove around for hours getting lost in neighborhoods and touring houses. We ended up building one and I helped every step of the way, from the carpet to the paint color. It is still something I enjoy doing today.  I love getting lost in a neighborhood and crashing open houses. I am a girl who loves good curb appeal.

What are 3 images that you think would give us a pretty good idea of your aesthetic/style? Feel free to include explanations if you want!

Honestly, my style is all over the place.  First I love color.  I am drawn to the mix of colors and patterns layered together, but done just right to where it isn’t tacky. On the opposite end of the spectrum I am drawn to the beauty in simplicity.  Anything clean and simple with just a touch of details to catch your eye. Oh and anything gold :)

If you could go to dinner with one person, living or dead, who would it be?

It would be an honor to have dinner with The First Family – President Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama. They are so intriguing to me equally as a couple and individuals.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

"You are the catalyst to your own happiness”

The best part of waking up is...?

The best part of waking up is having another chance at life. Every time I wake up I feel like I get to hit the refresh button. It is a great opportunity to make that day better than my last.

What's your favorite part about working at Accent Decor, so far?

As a millennial  I can say this company is a millennial’s dream company. Accent D├ęcor is a forward thinking company, it welcomes your opinions and talents whole heartedly to where you feel you are activie participant in its growth and they challenge you because they have set the standard so high in the industry you have to make sure you keep up and bring new ideas to the table. In my role as product manager, I love that my job is not monotonous. Every day is different - One week I can be working with our wonderful creative team developing our showroom displays, another week I can be in Paris seeing all the latest trends, or in China sourcing product.  It’s an amazing career and it is constantly pushes me to limits that I haven’t been pushed to before.

Accent Decor Takes On Paris...

In the words of Margaret Hofland, one of Accent Decor's fiercely creative leaders, "If you want to talk about inspiration, just go to Paris."

This past week, a few members of the Accent Decor team traveled to Maison et Objet in Paris. They were met with endless opportunities for invigoration and rejuvenation of creative energy. They had the pleasure of touching base with some of our partners overseas, and they were, as always, thrilled to take in all that Maison et Objet had to offer.

So much of what goes into the creation of our showroom and products begins with this yearly trip to Paris. From trend-seeking to unconventional sources of inspiration, there is never a shortage of reminders that beauty is everywhere.
