Big Studio with Els Teunissen

Last week, our team was thrilled to be hosting Els Teunissen in studio and on location with us, creating more beautiful images for the 2015 catalog. As we continue shooting for this upcoming season, we continue to receive more and more gorgeous products in our warehouse to add to our 2015 new collection, and it is getting increasingly exciting to see it all come together. We believe that it is our most comprehensive line yet, and we can't wait to offer it to you starting mid-December of 2014!

Our photoshoots are usually inspired and built around one main idea, which we then interpret in many different forms and fashions through our product, floral design, and staging. This photoshoot was specifically inspired by the beauty, community, and history of the every day flower shop. Though not directly interpreted, many of these shots were born from the idea of clusters and unique groupings of items, filled with lush florals, ready for the picking and the taking. This photoshoot is very close to our hearts as we know that many of our customers can closely identify with this inspiration.

We hope you are as inspired by the outcome of this photoshoot as we were by bringing it to life.

Accent Decor Talks Trends

Throughout 2014, from our product selection and showroom design, to our website and catalog, Accent Decor is often asked how we forecast and decide what is trending for the upcoming seasons. Today, our Creative Director, Sarah Bagle, shares in detail about the process that our creative team undergoes multiples times per year, to decide what trends we will be featuring in all aspects of our marketing and design, for the upcoming seasons.

As Sarah mentions, there are so many elements at play as we decide what trends to highlight each season. Travel, trade shows, trends books, social media, blogs, and countless other sources. In our showrooms this year, we featured the following stories, to highlight the trends that we decided were best suited, to tell the Accent Decor product line story.

This story is completely inspired by the mystery and magic of underwater.  It is not beachy or seashore driven, but completely submersed in the feeling of water. Beautiful glassware provides the movement and reflective elements, as well as urchin and sea-animal inspired shapes and textures. Anchored by cobalt blue hughes and accented by bright pops of corals and other sea animal shades, the cobalt lagoon is rich in depth, texture, and movement.

Inspired by a far away market, of no specific origin. This story is an exotic place where color and texture starkly contrast in order to present a daring style. Strong contrasting patterns, accented by sleek black and metal products. We featured many of our new hand made ceramics in this story to inspire a collected/modge podge aesthetic. We re-created our own market by filling tall glass and bowls with our own accessory sand, sitting atop a hand-woven mat, to really hit home the feeling of walking through the streets of a far-away street filled with vendors with beautiful treasures to discover.

This story was completely based on the juxtaposition of soft pastels mixed with a sense of geometry. The softness of the color mixed with the line of the products, created a refined simplicity. This story was largely based in a home setting, which was displayed through many hand-drawings on walls and shelving throughout the showroom. Romantic harmony was a great success with our customers because of its clean and inviting nature to browse through, and a strong feeling of comfort in the home.

This trend story was intentionally understated. It was founded in a strong base of natural elements (reclaimed wood stumps, bases, and birch), layered with the elegant strength of raw aluminum, and accented with the sparkle of mercury glass. The magic of this story comes alive with the playfulness of these elements working together.

We hope that you enjoyed the 2014 stories, as much as we enjoyed bringing them to life for you. We are in the throws of planning and building our stories and showrooms for 2015, and are beyond excited to share them with you as they highlight the stars of our new collection, as they debut in just a few short months!

Joyce Mason-Monheim in Studio

Product Coming Soon!

Last week was full of inspiring photoshoots and beautiful designs, thanks to the great company of Joyce Mason-Monheim AIFD, CFD, PFCI, AzMF. Any time we get a chance to collaborate with Joyce, we jump at the opportunity, as she is obviously talented beyond measure, and a joy to be around.

Many of the shots that we took over the past week are showcasing basic vessels (both from the upcoming 2015 and existing product), brought to life in a new way with approachable high-end designs. Joyce did such a beautiful job displaying how an arrangement can embody all of the elements of good design theory, while still being accessible and feasible for all. Now THAT is talent.

Enjoy the following preview of these images that we took in our studio, and around our showroom here in Norcross, GA. If you are in the Atlanta area and would like to take a peek around our showroom for yourself, please feel free! We are open from 8am to 4pm, Mon - Fri. You can call or email us at 1-800-385-5114 or for details.

Creative Brainstorming Week - 2015 Here We Come!

Can you believe we are here again? Neither can we!

This past week, the Accent Decor creative team spent many hours compiling our creative thoughts, inspirations, predicted trends, images, sights, sounds, you name it! With the guidance of our Creative Director, Sarah Bagle, we have successfully laid the groundwork for our 2015 trend stories and showroom designs.

We are beyond excited to share it all with you.

This next season is shaping up to be one full of color, texture, surprise, and delight; We are beyond enthused to get our hands dirty as we prepare our showrooms and catalog for 2015.

We often receive questions from our customers, asking how we manage to creatively evolve and produce each season with fresh eyes and invigorated minds. Through Accent Decor's many years as a company founded on inspiring through design, we have found that there are a multitude of inputs that help ensure the most amazing outcome. Today, we are sharing a few of the tools that we use to inspire creative brainstorming success.

Before we all gather together, we make sure that we prepare a clean slate for all of the new ideas that we want to formulate. So wether it is a room, a desk area, or a computer desktop, we always make sure we have cleaned our slates of the seasons past, and start with a brand new slate. Create a space for you and/or your team to be able to think clearly, move freely, and brainstorm effectively.

Before your time of brainstorming, take time to prepare your thoughts and ideas. Come to the table with a well thought out plan of action for your creative time, and make sure that you have small and big goals in place for what success will look like along the way.

In order to formulate the best ideas, everyone involved needs to feel and know that they are an important part of the creative process. However works best for you and your team, create an environment that allows each and every person to relax, feel welcome, and able to completely engage and share without fear of "failure." "Failure" can sometimes lead to the greatest successes.

Always have snacks. Always. They fuel the brain. This is a very important piece of the pie (as you will see below).

Some of the most exciting ideas generated from our team have come either directly from, or right after a time of laughing at a joke that is relatively off topic or discussing an idea that is in no way related to the task at hand. Allow yourself or your team to wander a bit, in order to spark imagination and allow breaks in brain processing. The final product depends on it.

I hope that these tips are helpful to you as you enter into a new season of design and inspiration. We would also love to hear YOUR thoughts on how you manage to stay inspired and generate refreshed creative ideas season after season. Feel free to leave comments below, or join the conversation on Facebook!
