Las Vegas - Habitat for Humanity

We love our new Vegas showroom! It has been a fantastic way for us to showcase our newest products: planters, baskets, iron stands, event design pieces, reversible vases, decorative accessories . . . It was also a wonderful opportunity for us to meet so many customers and friends. Haven't visited? Enjoy a few "sneak peek" pictures from our latest show. You can also visit our website, or the Vegas Market Center website for more information about planning to visit. This year, Accent Decor was able to give over $1000 worth of products and supplies from our Vegas showroom to support Habitat for Humanity.

In their own words, Habitat is a nonprofit organization "founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. We build with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds."
We love the chance to be a part of something that is making the world a better place for all of us! For more information about causes we support, visit our facebook page or our social network. You can also visit the Habitat for Humanity website for more information about the work they are doing across the globe.

*Quick reminder: Only one more day to enter our Design Contest on uBloom.com - Visit their website for more info and to enter. Grand prize: Trip to Atlanta! You can also vote for your favorite designs - the people's choice winner will get a FLIP camera.

Another Monday Morning

The air is starting to get that sweet crispness to it. You know the kind, where the sky has a brilliant blue tone, complete with sunshine that illuminates every single leaf just starting to change colors. Where pumpkin ice cream and apple pie are showing up in the grocery stores and on seasonal menus. Where cooler temperatures allow for cardigans and even lightweight scarves.
I love fall! Especially here in Atlanta, it's a gorgeous time of year. Not to mention home to some of my favorite holidays: Halloween and Thanksgiving. Oh and the fact that Christmas is just around the corner!

We're excited about what's ahead for Accent Decor as the season changes. We have so many specials and sales going on, the perfect opportunity for you to take advantage of savings to get some special pieces and accessories for the holidays. Not only that, but we're also hosting our second annual OPEN HOUSE! And we are SO looking forward to seeing some of you there. We are going to have our showroom all decked out with our newest products, designs and more. Els Teunnisen and J Schwanke will be there, along with the Accent Decor team. So please come join us for the open house! It's taking place October 28th and 29th at our Norcross showroom (6550A Jimmy Carter Blvd Norcross, GA 30076). Hope to see you there*The flowers in above picture are by Amy Osaba - check out her beautiful blog for more inspiration and eye candy!

Getting to Know Us: Trends and Inspiration

I just realized how much I over-use the word "inspiration" on this blog. I apologize. I can't stand it when people do that, but I just can't help myself - inspiring our customers (that's you) and ourselves: that's what this blog is all about!

Lately, I cannot stop looking at blogs and pictures and being motivated to create, to live, in more beautiful ways. Vintage and eclectic is what I'm all about lately.
Here are a few images and blogs that I am LOVING right now.
from the Ritzy Bee Blog ( also check out their Vintage Wednesdays -- love them!)

What about you? What's your style like these days? Both personally and in your business designs?

And how do you get inspired? For us, we like to create inspiration boards (well binders usually . . . ) where we can collect images, textures, "looks" and shapes that inspire(oh my, there I go again) encourage us in the creative process.
One of our inspiration boards from this past season: don't you love the muted colors and warm feel?

Check out this "mood board" from Creature ComfortsOr how about this eco-chic wedding collage from Style Me Pretty?
Hope you're feeling inspired. Now go create! (ps - does anyone know any synonyms for "inspire" - I'm about to drive myself crazy with saying it too much)

Getting to know us: Welcome Sarah!

Accent Decor has a new member of our team. I'm especially excited to introduce y'all to her, because she's my baby sister! Although I suppose she's not a baby anymore considering she has graduated from college and has filled the position of Product Manager at Accent Decor. Since having Jayci, I've stepped back from the product development end of the business to focus on the website; as well as, of course, my family.

Sarah is perfect for filling my spot - not only is she better trained and equipped, but we even look alike. She's lucky I'm nice, or I could post some really embarrassing pictures of her on here (instead, here's one of her with my little girl!)
Anyways, take a minute to welcome her to our team and get used to seeing her ideas and insights all over our newest collections, trends, and more. She will also be the one to travel and assist in the buying and developing of our new products. If you have ideas, inspirations, or suggestions for Sarah and the rest of our development team, feel free to leave them here!

Thursday Inspiration: Blogs and More

I have put together a somewhat tentative, flexible "schedule" for our blog. Now, don't get too set on the same thing every week, because I've never been the best at sticking to a strict schedule (just ask Jayci).

Speaking of Jayci, she turns ONE today - Happy birthday Jayci! I seriously cannot believe she has been a part of our family for a whole year. It has simply FLOWN by. We had her party this past weekend and it was so much fun!
Here's a quick shot from her party. I'm including it here because I got the idea from for the marshmallow cupcakes from one of my favorite blogs: Hostess with the Mostess. It's one of the most FUN, inspiring blogs to peruse for event ideas and eye candy!

I am a firm believer that I will be much more able to create beauty by surrounding myself with and being inspired by beauty. That said, here are some of the blogs/websites I like to read (or at least look at the pictures!) on a daily basis:
Design Sponge
Creature Comforts
Etsy
Style Me Pretty
The Unbride
Decor8
Utterly Engaged
Design Milk

What about you? Where do you go to be inspired?

Feature: Water Pearls

Crystals, Cubes and Pearls are made with a non-toxic polymer.
They expand up to 400 times with water.
Use 2.5 teaspoons to one litre water.
Add more or less water to get the ‘look’ you want.
Warm water will speed up the process and make the pearls larger.
Do not dispose of in a drain.
The crystals can be composted in the garden to encourage water retention.
Floral longevity will be compromised.
The dye will not change the color of the flowers.
The mixed crystals can last for a number of weeks if stored in a cool place.
The dye is contained within the crystal; the black and white pearls are opaque and can be mixed.
Mix it up! AD imagination!

extra hints:
hard water increases the amount of pearls, crystals, or cubes you need.
When bacteria builds up, the solution can be rinsed with fresh water. But the price allows you to simply dispose it and start again.
*Ralph Null did a presentation "No Leaf Unturned" at AIFD symposium using different orchids in containers with water peals. Creative value and long lasting.
The shipment will be here soon! It's in Charleston right now.

Water pearls are the biggest hit especially during the tough economic times. Low cost for a high impact.
